The expertise and skills of Sheffield engineering specialists SCX are in demand from sports organisations around the world as a result of its ground-breaking work at Wimbledon’s top two tennis courts and the new Tottenham Hotspur football stadium.

SCX Special Projects is talking to potential overseas partners in the light of its success in designing, engineering and installing sliding roofs for Wimbledon Centre and No.1 Courts and a retractable grass pitch at the world class home of Spurs.

The Sheffield company is responding to enquiries about using its innovative solutions in mechanical handling and electrical controls – the capability to lift, move, rotate, tilt, open and close structures of any size – on stadia roofs and pitches much further afield.

“The world is coming to us!” says Andy Whitworth, Managing Director of SCX Special Projects, which is part of the SCX group, based in Wincobank, Sheffield.

“The appetite for kinetic structures has never been greater. There are multiple opportunities to develop and progress our marketing overseas and we are looking at a number of strategic alliances for stadia around the world, as far as Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and the Middle East.”

SCX Special Projects has won numerous awards for its work at the All England Lawn Tennis Club and the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium, but much of its business comes from other sectors also requiring unique and precise engineering solutions.

“One of the main reasons for the interest from overseas in our work on sports stadia is not only our track record at Wimbledon and Tottenham, but also in the aerospace, nuclear and defence sectors which also demand high levels of accuracy, innovation and reliability,” says Andy.

SCX Special Projects has been working in the nuclear sector for over 20 years, meeting rigorous standards to supply high integrity crane systems for the decommissioning of nuclear power plants across the country.

But it is the sports contracts that have been most high profile.
