Active Fusion is delighted to announce that a World and Olympic Champion will be attending one of its events this month.
Active Fusion is a charity based in Doncaster working to help young people improve their physical activity.
The Federation Games is a day where children from schools within the Federation of Corpus Christi take part in a range of physical activities at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield.
It takes place on Friday, June 21st and will be attended by Sarah Stevenson MBE.
Born in Doncaster, Sarah is a Taekwondo athlete and won Britain’s first ever Olympic medal in the sport as well as several other World and European titles. She started her training in the Doncaster All Stars Taekwondo Team and is still a member of the club today.
She said: “I can’t wait to meet Active Fusion and all the young people involved with the Federation Games.
“When I started Taekwondo as a young person I was not only inspired to be the best I could be through sport, but I developed skills and attributes such as determination and resilience, which have made me the person I am today.
“I’m thrilled that such good work is going on in Doncaster and South Yorkshire to enable young people to have amazing experiences through sport.”
On the same day and also taking place at the EIS, is the Fusion Leaders Conference, which is for children who are Fusion Leaders in their primary schools. Fusion Leaders are trained by Active Fusion coaches to teach their friends and fellow pupils sports games and activities during playtime, not only encouraging them to be physically active but also developing skills such as communication and leadership. They will take part in a range of activities and taster sessions throughout the day to improve their skills.
Attending this event will be Sarah Outen. She is a British athlete, adventurer and motivational speaker who will be helping Active Fusion inspire youngsters to be the best they can be through physical activity.
Active Fusion coach Stephen Johnson is the main organiser of both events. He said: "This is the second year I have been running the Leaders Conference and the third year of running the Federation Games.
“Each event has been a huge success in the past few years. The conference is a brilliant opportunity for children to enhance their skills in communication, teamwork and problem solving whilst learning new skills and interacting with children from different schools. It is also an opportunity for teachers to share good practice and ideas to make the leaders training sustainable in their schools.
“The Federation Games is a festival of sport where children enjoy lots of different sporting activities throughout the day. Children get to experience the amazing facilities on offer at the EIS and experience new sports and skills they may not have tried before."
