Located in the Lombardy region of Italy, the picturesque town of Bormio is known for its mountainous views, natural thermal baths and beautiful ski slopes.
With 18 runs and 15 ski lifts spread across the Alps, the ski area can easily be reached via Milan with regular flights from regional and London airports including Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham, Bristol and Edinburgh. With the airports of Milan Malpensa and Milan Bergamo situated a three-hour drive away, Bormio is further afield than other winter resorts but the attractive drive to the historic town is well worth the trip.
A world capital for alpine skiing, Bormio is famous for its Stelvio slope which has annually hosted the Men’s Downhill World Cup since 1993 and will also be hosting the men’s alpine events at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The slope is great for experienced skiers who fancy a technical challenge.
Whether you want to put your feet up and relax those sore muscles or head out to indulge in a three-course dinner, you are bound to find something that suits your needs on an evening with a wide range of things to do from restaurants, bars and spas. If you fancy something different head back up the slopes to take part in night skiing.

Follow these top tips to get the most out of your skiing trip:
- Buy your ski pass in advance
If you purchase your ski pass before your holiday starts you can get the most out of your time by hitting the slopes as soon as you arrive. An adult’s three-day lift pass for Bormio in high season is €126*.
- Rent your ski gear
If you are a regular on the slopes you may take your own boots or board but renting your ski or boarding gear is quick and easy when you are only away for a short period. You can get fitted for your equipment, helmet and boots in the ski shop from 8.00am in the morning.
- Book lessons at the ski school
Whether you are a beginner or just need some refresher lessons, the Bormio ski school caters for a variety of ages and abilities. The lessons will equip you with the skills and confidence to take on that first blue run and hopefully many more.
- Enjoy lunch at Ristorante Heaven 3000
After working up an appetite from skiing or boarding, pop into the 4.5 Trip Advisor rated Ristorante Heaven 3000 to enjoy a spot of lunch. Accessed by cable cart you can appreciate their delicious local food whilst overlooking the mountains.
- Relax in a famous thermal bath
Famous for its thermal baths, the natural water springs of Bormio are the perfect place to take in the scenic surroundings of the Lombardy valley, relax and combat stress. Visit Bagni Vecchi Spa, Bagni Nuovi Spa or Bormio Terma Spa to experience a slice of Italian history.
- Head to Be White for après ski
Head to the base of Bormio 2000 for the traditional après ski experience at Be White Après Ski & Restaurant. Although not as wild as Meribel’s La Folie Douce, the bar provides a fun place to let your hair down after a long day on the slopes – open every day from 3.30pm.
- Dig into a delicious dinner at Vecchia Combo
From pizza and pasta to deli boards and wine, the highlight of Bormio is their tasty offering of traditional food. The popular Vecchia Combo restaurant provides a warm and cosy environment whilst serving up authentic food from the local region – don’t forget to make a reservation for a truly rustic meal.
