A Chesterfield author has ear-marked arguably the most depressing day of the year for the official launch of her new book.
Anne Burton – a former accountant but now a recognised leader in human behaviour – has picked January’s ‘Blue Monday’ to unveil her new ‘Being Human – The Mind Reboot’.
Blue Monday
The third Monday of January – the 20th – was given its gloomy title due to the triple whammy of post-Christmas blues, the arrival of festive credit card bills and the early failure of New Year’s resolutions.
Anne’s new book is borne out of her own experience of trying to fit with society’s accepted norms. This led to a decade-long study of human behaviour, following years as an accountant specialising in helping companies deal with periods of intense change.
She said: “In 2007, after years of being sucked further into the rat race, I hit a brick wall. I became a mess of stress and sleep deprivation. My body was telling me enough was enough – I couldn’t even get out of bed.
“I was taking an MBA on human behaviour and that helped me make sense of why my life was going down the path it was.”
Anne argues there’s no better example of the failure of accepted patterns of human behaviour than peoples’ inability to stick to New Year’s resolutions.
“Only about 10% of those that make a New Year’s resolution make it past the beginning of February.
“Failure isn’t down to the things we traditionally blame like lack of will power. It’s actually down to things like the language you use when making the resolution. It’s also how you correctly focus on what’s important to you and how you make your goals more compelling.
“I’m passionate about helping people change destructive patterns of behaviour. We can achieve this by restoring balance and giving them the tools to start achieving their life goals.”
When is the launch?
Anne Burton is hosting the Resolution Revolution event as part of her book launch celebrations. The event will take place on Saturday, January 18th at Sheffield’s St Paul’s Mercure Hotel.
The event will be geared to transforming the way you make resolutions and set goals. “I believe in getting results without the need for will power”, added Anne.
The event costs just £49 and includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Tickets are available from:
