Following a string of acclaimed developments in Sheffield’s historic Kelham Island, award winning city multi disciplinary practice CODA Studios has identified an exciting new area for growth.

The company’s planners and designers are now working on the development of a site at Keeton’s Hill, off London Road, as a community urban village.

The site – currently used primarily for car parking – will eventually feature a mixture of commercial, retail and residential development, including an estimated 50 apartments and space for 17 of CODA’s two bedroom Sky-House properties, the back to back housing concept that is already attracting national attention.

“We have already demonstrated that a site like Kelham Island can become an exciting social and cultural hub with a string of award winning projects that is still far from over,” said CODA Managing Director David Cross.

“We have been looking for a similar sort of area for development in another part of the city and we do believe that Keeton’s Hill could have a very similar sort of vibe in another exciting and culturally diverse part of the city.

“Although Keeton’s Hill is a smaller area, its compactness will play in its favour as we create a development that aims to be millennial friendly.

“It’s all about shared living and working, the young professional market, a development for people who want to live close to the city and enjoy all the advantages of city living while, at the same time, creating their own micro community.

“The fact that it is close to Nether Edge, Sharrow and London Road, means it will be popular with people looking to enjoy the social and cultural diversity of this part of the city.

“There is a real need for fresh housing stock in this part of Sheffield and this is exactly the sort of project to stimulate a sense of regeneration and excitement, replicating the buzz we helped to create in Kelham Island.”

A planning application will be submitted in September with a view to commencing the development in early 2019. The project will be delivered by CODAs new Special Projects division.
