Commenting on the government’s announcement that face coverings will be mandatory in shops and supermarkets in England from 24 July, Doncaster Chamber CEO Dan Fell said:

“This intervention from Government is overdue and the implementation date should be sooner. At the heart of the economic crisis affecting Doncaster and the rest of the UK is a global health pandemic, taking steps to minimise the risk of spreading the virus is therefore good for business.

“It is imperative that businesses receive clear guidance, details and clarity following the announcement that face coverings will be mandatory in shops and supermarkets from July 24th. It is also equally important that businesses who operate indoors and are not a shop or supermarket are provided with the same level of clarity when it comes to explaining what is expected of them. Frankly, businesses are tiring of mixed messages and unclear advice, they deserve better.

“Following a lukewarm Summer Statement last week that was characterised by missed opportunities and had a mixed reception within business communities, it is imperative that Government gets back on the front foot with business by acting with purpose and clarity once more.”
