More leisure pool capacity is being re-opened at Sheffield City Trust venues to help swimmers beat the heat this summer.
Despite Covid lockdown easing being delayed for four weeks, Sheffield City Trust will open more leisure swimming activities at Ponds Forge from Saturday, June 26 which adds to extra provision at Hillsborough Leisure Centre that has been in place since May 17.
Both swimming pools have seen high demand for swimming since reopening three months ago but with all features set to come on stream, including lazy river, flumes and waves there will be even more action for families to enjoy.
Andrew Snelling, Chief Executive said: “We have seen lots of swimmers getting back into the pool following the lockdown closure.
“It’s wonderful to see so many individuals returning to our venues; with swimming appealing to people of all ages. Swimming is now included in all Sheffield City Trust memberships and demand for lessons for younger children means that all our Stage 1 lessons are currently full.
“Working within current Covid-secure guidance, we are delighted to be increasing the availability of our leisure swimming activities from next weekend, with all the features at both Ponds Forge and Hillsborough Leisure Centre.”
Sheffield City Trust has played a key role in supporting the response to the pandemic with Sheffield Arena hosting the region’s mass vaccination centre and the English Institute of Sport Sheffield being the base for the city’s rapid testing facility.
All eight leisure venues in the city have reopened in line with government guidance and the golf courses at Beauchief, Birley Wood and Tinsley are seeing record numbers of rounds being played this summer.
Sheffield City Trust launched as the UK’s first leisure trust, and has inspired the local community to get fit and stay active for over 30 years. It has invested almost £50m into improving its facilities and reaching local communities since 1990.
