Frenchgate Shopping Centre is celebrating having won a prestigious industry award.

The Centre has been recognised for the Rich Seam exhibition by the Revo Purple Apple Marketing Awards and collected a coveted Purple Apple Award at a ceremony in London.

The popular Rich Seam exhibition, which saw Frenchgate working with DMBC and Doncaster College to successfully raise awareness of the crowd funding appeal to build a statue dedicated to mining within the borough received the accolade in the cause related marketing category.

The exhibition ran from July to August 2018 and featured work from international artist and sculptor Laurence Edwards. 18 bronze portraits, a 5m wall of drawings and a giant 10ft rock together with films and photographic portraits were all part of the exhibition, which was situated in a vacant retail unit.

The Revo Purple Apple Marketing Awards are the only awards which recognise and reward effective shopping and town centre marketing within the UK retail property sector. The awards also reflect how marketers have to constantly adjust to changing times, from ensuring their budget goes further and works harder, driving retailer sales and harnessing new initiatives including digital marketing.

Frenchgate was the only shopping centre within South Yorkshire to be successful at the awards.

The award judges commented that the campaign demonstrated: “A uniqueness aligned with place meant this was celebrating both past and future talent. A great creative partnership that really resonates with the local community and that was able to tick multiple boxes with one idea for a range of stakeholders. Great initiative!”

Karen Staniforth, assistant general manager at Frenchgate, said: “We are over the moon to have been recognised for the great work we have been doing at Frenchgate.

“The Revo Purple Apple Marketing Awards are very important within our industry and it is a great achievement for all our team to receive this accolade.

“We were awarded a merit at the Purple Apple awards last year for our Art Space campaign, so to follow it up with a purple apple award win this year is brilliant.

“We work hard at Frenchgate to ensure our customers have the best possible multi-sensory experience when they visit our centre and to be recognised for this is fantastic achievement for everyone involved.”
