Frenchgate Shopping Centre is partnering with Doncaster Mind to promote World Mental Health Day across the Town.
The centre is inviting shoppers to the one-off event that is taking place on Thursday 10th October (World Mental Health Day) in aid of raising mental health awareness. On the day the team from Doncaster Mind will be hosting a range of mindful crafts and activities.
Customers can get involved by personalising their own ‘Kindfulness Leaf’, where they can write kind and meaningful thoughts on their individual leaf which can then be hung in Frenchgate’s garden. Alternatively, the ‘Stick Star’ activity allows shoppers to take home their very own star – perfect for popping on top of the Christmas tree.
To highlight the power of mindfulness, the ‘Leaf Art’ workshop will allow customers to create a natural artwork. By drawing around the leaves and making a mindful piece of art, it creates a soothing feeling, enabling individuals to calm their minds and concentrate on their wellbeing.
Offering extra support, Doncaster Mind wellbeing workers and volunteers will be available on the day for those who need someone to talk to, have a moment of calm or want to share any issues privately – the ‘Head Shed’ allows a safe space for individuals who would like to access these services.
The White Rose Beauty School is getting involved with World Mental Health Day and is offering hand massages to help people feel calm, relaxed and improve their wellbeing. The Beauty Therapists will be based on the Upper North Mall outside of Debenhams from 12 – 2pm.
Karen Staniforth, Assistant General Manager of Frenchgate, said:
“Mental health problems can affect anyone and everyone 365 days of the year which is why we have partnered with the wonderful charity, Doncaster Mind, to increase awareness and end the stigma around mental health across Doncaster.
“World Mental Health Day is a fantastic event where throughout the country, people show their support for better mental health. We feel honoured to be hosting an event to highlight such an important topic here in South Yorkshire.”
Doncaster Mind helps individuals who struggle with their mental health, providing support and awareness throughout the community.
Jenni Hall, Wellbeing Worker of Doncaster Mind, commented:
“Anyone who is experiencing any kind of difficulty with their mental health deserves to be supported. At Doncaster Mind, we provide a safe arena to support people through peer support. The most powerful part of peer support is for people to realise that they are not alone in how they feel, and that they don’t have to deal with how they feel on their own.
“We hope that these activities on World Mental Health Day will help make the community aware that there is support out there. We would also encourage that those who feel they may need to talk to someone, to pop down to the event and talk to our experienced staff for a confidential chat.”
The one-off event will be on 10am-3pm in the garden area outside of Boots located on the Ground Floor.
