Sheffield-born author Lyndsey Hall has published her debut novel, a young adult fantasy book.

Lyndsey started writing the novel in 2016 and after a break from writing to have a baby, she picked the story back up in 2019 and made the decision to publish it independently.

The Fair Queen was released on 31 August and is the first in a planned trilogy aimed at fans of fantasy novels, particularly those with a love of fairy tales and the fae.

The story follows 17-year-old Aria, who lives in the fictional village of Hartwood. She is shocked to discover a portal into another realm where the Fair possess magical abilities linked to the elements, and dark creatures stalk the woods.

Lyndsey took inspiration from British folklore and mythology to craft a story filled with adventure, enchantment and romance, weaving themes of friendship, identity and coming of age together with symbolism and local legends.

Lyndsey, 32, also works full time as a marketing manager for a Sheffield accountancy firm. She is an alumnus of Mount St Mary’s College in Spinkhill, and went on to study BA European Studies with Spanish and the University of Birmingham and MA Translation Studies at the University of Portsmouth.

The Fair Queen is available now in eBook and paperback from Amazon, with an audio book coming soon. The next book in the series, The Solitary King, will be released in 2021.
