A Sheffield company has today (Saturday 21 April) received royal recognition after being named as a recipient of a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
Twinkl, based on Ecclesall Road, is one of 238 organisations nationally to be recognised with a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.
The Queen’s Award is the UK’s highest accolade for business success, recognising companies for outstanding achievement in International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility).
Award winners are announced each year on Her Majesty’s birthday, 21 April. The award is valid for five years and, during this time, successful organisations may fly the Queen’s Award flag at their principal premises and are entitled to use the Emblem in all of their advertising.
With a team of more than 430 members worldwide, Twinkl is an award-winning online education publisher providing classroom materials. Many of the staff at Twinkl are ex-teachers meaning the materials on offer are created by teachers for teachers.
Founded in 2010 by Jonathan and Susie Seaton, Twinkl has nearly 500,000 quality classroom resources currently used in the majority of UK schools, including lesson packs, planning, assessment and display materials, all created in-house.
With customers in more than 168 countries, including Christmas Islands, Twinkl has a focus on primary and pre-primary education, but is expanding rapidly into secondary materials.
Jon Seaton, CEO at Twinkl, said: “In terms of recognition, this award is like rocket fuel. It is an internationally respected accolade and we hope this will help Twinkl break into new markets.
“It’s a true reflection of the brilliant work our teams do on a daily basis to make a real difference in helping teachers around the world.
“In a recent survey of 6,300 customers, 97 per cent of our members agree that using Twinkl improves their work/life balance, so we are delighted to see how much difference our resources are making to teachers’ lives.
“I really can’t overstate the significance of winning this award – it’s incredible!”
Susie Seaton, Co-Founder at Twinkl, said: “We’re quite humbled to think that after just eight years of business, Twinkl has received The Queen’s Award. It’s an amazing achievement for the entire team.
“The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is such a prestigious form of recognition and we’re honoured to have Twinkl’s work in International Trade acknowledged in this way.”
As a winner of the Queen’s Award, Twinkl will receive an official Grant of Appointment and a commemorative crystal bowl.
Twinkl will celebrate the award win at a royal reception for Queen’s Awards winners in the summer. Closer to home, the Twinkl team will also be marking the occasion with a breakfast fit for a queen in Sheffield with a variety of pastries and snacks.
