Street CraneXpress, the Sheffield-based national crane service provider, has picked up a major contract with Southern Water.
It is taking control of lifting equipment at 181 Southern Water treatment works extending from East Kent through parts of Sussex, to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
The contract marks a significant extension of Street CraneXpress’s reach into the south of the UK and underlines its expansion plans.
“We are delighted to be working with Southern Water,” said Sales Manager Duncan Randall.
“In this instance, our online reporting system, software systems and records in efficiency and health and safety record were key factors in winning the competitive tender against national providers.”
Street CraneXpress is the only UK-owned national crane service provider, specialising in ensuring the efficiency and safety of overhead travelling cranes, jib cranes and associated hoists.
At Southern Water, it is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and repair of more than 330 pieces of lifting equipment at water treatment plants, often involving working in confined spaces.
The Sheffield company – part of the award-winning SCX group of companies – employs about 70 engineers and administrative staff at its headquarters in Tyler Street, Wincobank.
It recently made an international shortlist of three at an awards ceremony hosted by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). It received a Special Commendation for the Kevin Holmes Memorial Award for Excellence in People Development.
The Southern Water contract follows the best results in the company’s 46-year history, with rising sales, turnover and numbers of staff.
Part of its work involves offering expertise in the inspection, maintenance, repair and upgrade of cranes and advising customers on compliance with recent legislation on the safe and efficient use of older cranes.
High profile customers include Arconic Forgings, Siemens, JCB, Perkins Engines, Hitachi, Toyota Manufacturing and Urenco.
