Sheffield-based Bell & Buxton solicitor Demelza Wrigley has won a top industry accolade after scooping the prestigious Yorkshire Legal Awards Family Law award.

More than 20 awards were handed out at the 17th annual Yorkshire Legal Awards, with Sheffield-based legal firms taking home seven.

The small family law team at Bell & Buxton, based in Telegraph House, is fronted by Demelza, and focuses on all aspects of the field including separation and divorce and its implications, finances, children issues and proceedings, and injunctions.

Demelza was shortlisted for the award after being routinely praised by her peers, and often has her services personally sought out from clients.

The yearly ceremony recognises and celebrates the legal talent across Yorkshire, with the awards judged by a respected panel from the region’s legal industry.

This year’s awards were chaired by Marilyn Stowe, the founder and former senior partner of Stowe Family Law.

The awards took place in the £350 million New Dock Hall on Leeds’s waterfront, was organised by Barker Brooks Communications, with journalist, presenter and sportsman Chris Hollins hosting.

More than 60 firms, organisations and individuals were shortlisted for the awards, following a 20% increase in entries for 2017.

Other Sheffield legal firms recognised at the Yorkshire Legal Awards, included Irwin Mitchell. DLA Piper, Switalskis and St. John’s Buildings.

The accolade from the Yorkshire Legal Awards follows on from legal publication Legal 500 officially recommending nine of Bell & Buxton’s staff earlier this year. The firm also maintained their ‘leading firm’ status, which they have now held for ten years.
