“Homelessness is happening here in Sheffield and across the Region right now; the question for us is - are we prepared to keep putting up with this?” – Tony Stacey, Chief Executive, South Yorkshire Housing Association.
On Saturday 1 June, South Yorkshire Housing Association is inviting everybody in Sheffield to join in a conversation about homelessness.
South Yorkshire Housing Association will be in the Activity Room at the Millennium Gallery from 15:15-16:30 as part of the Festival of Debate’s Living Together Hub Day. They will be screening a new short film about homelessness in Sheffield, starring people living in the organisation’s Cuthbert Bank - a safe space for homeless families to call home.
Alongside the screening, everybody will be encouraged to share their ideas on how we can make Sheffield a city where everyone has a place they can happily call home. You will also be able to make a pledge to share how you will support ending homelessness in Sheffield, and there will be plenty of information, stories and ideas to spark some inspiration!
We all deserve to have a safe, affordable and stable home. One of the stars of the film, James (whose family lives at Cuthbert Bank), said: “Having the city all come together and support each other – that’s what we’re all here for. We’re all human. It’s about making the city as good as we can for each other, and it’s about making it our home.”
Tony Stacey, Chief Executive of South Yorkshire Housing Association, reiterated that “homelessness is not an inevitable part of life in 21st century England.”
