From shopping to swapping – Frenchgate Shopping Centre is inviting customers to take part in a special book swap to celebrate World Book Day.

Shoppers in Doncaster can take their old books to Frenchgate and choose another donated book from the collection in the lead up to the event on Thursday 7 March.

Frenchgate’s initiative is designed to inspire more people throughout the town to discover a new book and celebrate their love of reading.

Karen Staniforth, assistant general manager at Frenchgate, said: “This is a great opportunity for Frenchgate shoppers to take part in a book swapping activity, read something new and celebrate books in all forms.”

Waterstones Doncaster will be hosting a book-themed event throughout the day, with activities including a treasure hunt and activity sheets.

Pupils in Doncaster schools will also be able to spend their £1 World Book Day tokens in store.

Karen added: “Children in schools throughout Doncaster can also come to Frenchgate and use their £1 book tokens in one of our participating stores – Waterstones, WH Smith and The Works. There are 12 books available this year for just £1, or if they’ve got their eye on something else, they can use the token to get £1 off any book of their choice.

“Fancy dress is also encouraged, and we look forward to seeing everyone dressed up as their favourite book characters!”

World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading.
