RNN Training works with hundreds of employers across South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire. James Godsell, director of employer partnerships at RNN Group, asks if an apprentice could help boost your business
Let’s make no bones about it – the last few months have been hard for business. There was a shift in people’s behaviour and measures introduced that were unprecedented. The economy seemed to enter freefall, businesses were forced, or felt compelled, to shut up shop and uncertainty hit new heights.
Fortunately, in the last few weeks we’ve seen the Government relax guidelines, and businesses and industries begin to reopen, while other industries have received long awaited guidance on when they can restart operations.
Recently Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced details of a plan to ‘kickstart’ the economy, which we were delighted to see put apprenticeships at the very forefront of rebuilding the economy.
As an employer you may be reading this with tough decisions to make. Apprenticeships might just be part of the solution.
At RNN Training we work with hundreds of employers across South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire who see real value from apprenticeships – we see the difference apprenticeships make to business every day. Our employer partners work with us for a lot of reasons:
Ready-made Talent Pool
As part of the RNN Group, we work in partnership with Rotherham College, North Notts College, Dearne Valley College and University Centre Rotherham, which means we have access to a pool of enthusiastic and talented students with qualifications, and vocational knowledge, at a range of levels from Level 2 (GCSE) to Level 4 (first year of university). This knowledge spans a range of industries including business, construction, engineering, hairdressing and beauty therapy, health and social care, hospitality and motor vehicle.
Set-up for Success – Mentoring Scheme
We don’t believe in placing an apprentice and leaving you both to continue alone. We want to ensure that as a business you are able to get the most benefit from your apprentice, and that your apprentice receives the support they need to succeed. We offer mentor training that sets out expectations, and provides the skills an experienced member of your team will need to successfully manage and mentor your apprentice.
Support Accessing Apprenticeship Funding
Every year we place hundreds of apprentices. We work with more than 700 employers from sole traders to national organisations. We help these businesses unlock apprenticeship funding.
The biggest businesses utilise the Apprenticeship Levy to fund their apprenticeships, but if you’re not a levy paying business we can help you unlock up to 95 per cent of funding for your apprentices training. We can help get you set-up on the Digital Apprenticeship Service to secure your funding.
Government Incentives
The ‘big news’ of the Chancellor’s announcement.
If you take on an apprentice you can receive an incentive of between £1,500-£3,000 per apprentice.
The value of the incentive is based on the age of the apprentice with the following breakdown:
£3,000 – Apprentice aged 16 – 18
£2,000 – Apprentice aged 19 – 24
£1,500 – Apprentice aged 25 or over
With more than 90 per cent of apprentices continuing in employment, or further study, at the end of their apprenticeship, apprenticeships are ideal for recruiting, training and retaining a talented workforce.
