International law firm CMS is pleased to announce that it has signed a 20-year lease for new premises at 1 Charter Square in Sheffield, underscoring the firm’s continued commitment to its presence in Sheffield and the North.

1 Charter Square, situated in Phase 1 of Sheffield City Council’s Heart of the City II regeneration project and just a ten-minute walk from Sheffield’s Midland Station, offers a central location, first-class facilities as well as a dynamic and collaborative environment to deliver exceptional services to CMS clients. Located across four floors, it will be home to approximately 350 CMS people with enough space to accommodate future growth as part of the firm’s strategy in the North.

The landmark building, which also houses HSBC, has been carefully designed to respect the surrounding street patterns, as well as creating linkages through and around the area, including the exciting new retail and leisure developments on The Moor.

CMS’ Head of the North, Mark Haywood, comments: “We are delighted to reaffirm our commitment to Sheffield – and the North of England generally – in the most tangible way possible, by taking a new home for our people in the City for the next 20 years, with space to grow. CMS has grown by more than 20% in the North of England over the last 18 months as we consciously embrace the opportunities this vibrant region offers, with significant partner hires made in each of our real estate, pensions and commercial litigation sectors, with additional corporate, banking and construction capacity added across the board. These are exciting times for our Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield teams.”

The firm is expected to move into its new space in Autumn 2020 – coinciding with the firm’s 30-year anniversary in Sheffield.
