Ponderosa will be the next park in the city to be rejuvenated as part of Sheffield City Council’s ongoing investment in the city’s green spaces.

The public health funded project will focus on making the city’s parks more welcoming, accessible and safer and the council has begun consultations with local residents and stakeholders to discuss the plans.

The project  has been supported from the start by local Walkley ward councillors, including Councillor Olivia Blake, Councillor Ben Curran and Councillor Neale Gibson, who proposed improvements be made to enhance the play and sports facilities available to the local community.

Councillor Mary Lea, cabinet member for culture, parks and leisure said: “Ponderosa is a wonderful park that is important to both people who live nearby and to visitors to the great festivals and events held there.

“Our aim is to refurbish Ponderosa so it is a space available to everyone who wants to enjoy it, whether that is for meeting friends, a day out with the family or staying active.

“The improvements to Ponderosa are part of our project to upgrade parks across the city; making them places where people can enjoy the outdoors, making the most of the brilliant green spaces Sheffield has to offer.”

The developments are part of a wider scheme to raise the quality of outdoor spaces in Sheffield, with Brightside, Hillsborough, Highfields, Richmond and Norfolk Heritage Park among the sites also receiving funds for refurbishment.

The consultation will be open until Wednesday 24 October 2018 and is available online here: https://sheffield.citizenspace.com/place-business-strategy/ponderosa-park-consultation

Paper copies will also be available from Zest in Upperthorpe, along with a return box for completed questionnaires.
