Highlander want to break down the uncertainty around Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and symbolise the benefits it can provide for your company by showcasing the drastic improvements it has already provided to several of its clients.

Highlander recently worked on a project to provide an ERP system for a manufacturer based in the South East. Their primary goal was to ensure slicker processes for building industrial units which are eventually supplied to NHS Trusts across the UK.

The ERP system needed to provide Work In Progress (WIP) scheduling, demand planning and an integrated financial system in a single application.

The efficiencies this implementation has delivered have been significant and the benefits of streamlining the manufacturing processes has provided a quantifiable return on investment. However, this was only the starting point for a platform that now delivers far more than expected and generates a new revenue stream for the organisation.

By integrating connection devices to the manufactured units, they can now show service and usage statistics in real time for every device in operation. This provides insight into a variety of different things. Firstly, they can diagnose and analyse faults before the client is aware of them. The ERP system creates service tickets for all system generated faults which greatly improves customer service on faulty units.

The organisation can also now run trend analysis on the faults they receive which improves product recall on the serialised components that are documented for each completed unit.

However, the most significant impact of the new software is the ability to provide real time service stats for the NHS trusts and provide online access to data being delivered from the units in the production environment. This generates a new revenue stream for the manufacturer as, in addition to manufacturing and installing each unit, the organisation now sells the unit service schedule as a service to the NHS Trusts. Each Trust has individual and secure portals to access the relevant information for them and the ERP system automatically generates that business intelligence.

ERP systems can deliver significant benefits to process automation, but by adding new functionality, connected systems can also be a source for new revenue streams, new services and improve customer retention.

If your organisation is looking to add revenue streams that don’t currently exist, we’d be happy to talk through how intelligent software can help you achieve this. Please email softwaresolutions@highlanderuk.com
