Daniel Bumby from technology solutions company Simoda explains why Google Workspace is becoming the sensible choice for businesses interested in alternatives to Microsoft 365.

Lots of businesses have already moved their productivity suite of applications to the cloud and, according to the statistics, some 83 per cent of enterprises use Microsoft 365 – or Office 365 as it was previously known. However, over the last 12 months we have started to see a trend in the business community choosing Google Workspace over Microsoft 365.

For a Microsoft and Google Workspace partner like ourselves, this is an interesting battle and one that we address daily, but it also throws up some interesting challenges.

Google Workspace has generally been the application stack of choice for new businesses which are what we call ‘born in the cloud’ and traditionally it has been the flavour of choice for the education sector. Now, we are seeing a true challenge to Microsoft’s dominance with Google’s business class productivity package.

An interesting trend we are experiencing at the moment is businesses with mixed estates, meaning they have both Microsoft 365 & Google Workspace.

This brings even more challenges to the IT team, but these are not ones to look at in fear. The objective of a mixed estate is to ensure that users are as productive as possible and in today’s modern IT world this is achieved by giving the users the applications they are most comfortable with.
