A landmark Sheffield hotel has re-opened for business.
Formerly the Sheffield Hilton, The Quays Hotel, operated by Legacy Hotels & Resorts, is a Best Western plus hotel, at Victoria Quays in the city’s emerging Canal Basin area.
Legacy, one of the UK’s leading independent hotel management companies, has taken just a few months to re-open the four-star hotel and leisure club following its sudden closure late last year.
Following the completion of recruitment plans, the hotel is welcoming back 35 per cent of previous staff out of a total of 60 FTEs.
The property, which originally opened under the ownership and branding of Stakis Hotels, features 128 bedrooms, a spa with an extensive gym and swimming pool, meeting spaces and is home to the Quays Restaurant.
Situated on Furnival Road, at Victoria Quays, (Sheffield’s developing Canal Basin area) close to the historic railway arches, the building is a well-known and prominent feature on the City skyline and stands in a gateway location.
New operators, Legacy Hotels & Resorts, is a privately owned, hotel management company with a substantial portfolio of trading hotels and an active development pipeline of branded and independent guestrooms throughout the UK, Spain and Scandinavia representing around 3,300 guestrooms.
Legacy Hotels & Resorts Chief Executive Andy Townsend said: “The Quays joins the Best Western group of hotels across the UK where it becomes a Best Western Plus hotel.
“It has been a very busy and exciting time as we bring back The Quays as one of the premier hotels in the Sheffield City Region to stay and to enjoy top class leisure and well-being facilities, corporate entertaining and a strong programme of events.
“Over the years the hotel has been popular with guests, diners and leisure facility users alike. It has tremendous potential where we will also seek to build on its popularity as an event location.”
Legacy Hotels & Resorts has appointed Phil Dunn as general manager of The Quays Hotel in Sheffield. Phil previously held the post of bar manager at the Victoria Quays facility during its original launch as a Stakis Hotels venue over 20 years ago.
- Hilton Sheffield ceased to operate on the 15 December 2019. Hilton managed the property on behalf of the owning company which surrendered its lease resulting in the closure. The closure was not linked to Hilton’s operation of the hotel.
