I was very sad to hear of the passing of Owlerton Greyhound Stadium managing director John Gilburn last month.
In my other role as account director at Sheffield PR firm HR Media I worked closely with John and his team at Owlerton for many years.
He was always someone who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, but he dealt with people fairly and, as thousands of people will no doubt agree with, was the perfect host at the track, which has plans for a huge expansion of its banqueting facilities that John was driving through.
John was a major figure in the greyhound industry and his knowledge and ability won’t be easily replaced.
However, it is the man himself who will be most sadly missed as a colleague, family man and friend.
John's funeral will take place at Grenoside Crematorium in Sheffield on Wednesday, November 7 from 1pm.
