Founder and lead director of Fourth Wall Building Consultancy, Joshua Weston MRICS, has been awarded the prestigious Young Building Surveyor of the Year title at the RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards 2022.
Joshua co-founded Fourth Wall in 2020 with the aim of reimagining the way building surveying services are provided, by focusing on pragmatic, honest and jargon-free advice, with a personal and customer-centric service.
Since its formation in 2020, with Joshua at the helm, Fourth Wall has expanded its offer across Yorkshire, the North West and Midlands, and now advises on residential and commercial properties of all shapes and sizes.
Joshua, who was told at school that he was not “university material”, is passionate about supporting other young and budding surveyors entering the industry.
Joshua said: “I am honoured to win this category award at the RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards. Having been raised on building sites, I was always drawn to building surveying as an opportunity to influence the built environment for the better. From homes and schools, to restaurants and offices, in recent years, I have been privileged to work on some fantastic projects with some great clients.
“Providing a better experience for my clients, and creating a better firm for my employees, has always been at the heart of what I want to achieve at Fourth Wall. I am passionate that we never lose sight of why we founded Fourth Wall and what we want to achieve, and I look forward to what the future holds for the business and my team.”
The annual awards celebrate the most inspirational young surveying professionals in the UK and recognise those who have demonstrated excellence early in their careers.
Joshua Weston was noted as a worthy winner by judges who stated that “his pride in the profession was evident”. His expertise advising on heritage buildings and his dynamic approach to residential and commercial building consultancy were commended. His work alongside listed building owners to retrofit their spaces and secure project funding were also referenced as key factors in his win.
