Sheffield BID has called on businesses in the city centre to get involved in a Spring litter pick.
As part of Keep Britain Tidy’s “Great British Spring Clean” national campaign, Sheffield BID’s litter pick will take place in the city centre on Friday 20 March, from 10am to 1pm.
The litter pick is open to all businesses and city centre organisations as Diane Jarvis, BID Manager, explained.
“We are inviting enthusiastic businesses and other organisations in Sheffield city centre to come and support us with this year’s city centre litter pick,” she said.
“A clean and tidy city centre is something that benefits us all and is a cause in which we all have a role to play.
“At last year’s Spring Clean, 50 volunteers from across 13 companies completed a litter pick of the city centre. It’s a fun few hours and a chance to get outside and meet our hardworking team and other likeminded individuals.”
The Spring litter pick will kick off at the Peace Gardens, where members of Sheffield BID’s team will provide a short briefing and all the necessary equipment.
Suzy Brain England OBE, Chair of the Sheffield BID Board is also Chair of Keep Britain Tidy, added: “The Great British Spring Clean is the country’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign. It tackles litter and waste levels, improves public places and helps to educate future generations.
“Sheffield BID has always been a great supporter of the national campaign by organising and contributing to activities right in the heart of Sheffield. The city centre typically looks clean and tidy when compared to some other major cities, and that is down to the hard work of the BID, the Council and the businesses they collaborate with.”
Diane Jarvis, BID Manager, continued: “A major focus of Sheffield BID has always been to try and keep the streets in the city centre clean and well maintained, helping to provide a welcoming and inviting environment for people to shop, work and live.
“Creating the right impression for all our visitors is imperative to supporting the local economy and our city centre traders.”
In addition to organising one-off actions such as the Spring litter pick, Sheffield BID’s graffiti Clean Team have now removed more than 700 cases of graffiti on buildings during its tenure, while its Street Rangers team have, to date, sanitised doorways, fire escapes and shared alleyways over 84,000 times.
