Sheffield-based children’s postural care specialists Jenx and Jiraffe have launched a nationwide competition for children to name their new Sensory Room.

The winner of the company’s ‘#JiraffeSensoryRoom’ competition, which is open to all children aged under 16 living in the UK, will receive an annual family pass to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and will also be the guest of honour at the grand opening of the sensory room.

This space will be specially designed to develop a person’s senses in a safe, accessible and multi-sensory environment. The room will combine a range of stimuli including lights, colours, sounds, sensory soft play objects and scents to ease the child into this safe environment.

The addition of the sensory room, which is projected to be completed by the end of the year, is a part of several developments taking place at Jiraffe’s head office on Wardsend Road, Hillsborough in Sheffield.

Holly Jenkins, Director at Jiraffe, said: “Our team is so excited to see some of the great ideas the children come up with for the forthcoming sensory room – we expect that choosing a winner will be hard!

“The addition of a sensory room will open up our facilities to some of our most important visitors – the children we work with. This space will be designed specifically with the needs of children with sensory processing challenges in mind, providing opportunities for them to ignite and explore their senses in a safe way. This space will also be hugely important for our young visitors with complex needs, giving them somewhere calm where they can relax.”

Jenx has been researching, designing and manufacturing ground-breaking developmental postural equipment to support children with specific postural needs since 1982. Jiraffe has been distributing Jenx and Rifton products in the UK since 2014, continuing the partnership with Rifton which began in 2005.

The competition will close on the 30th April 2020.
