Sheffield’s city centre is about to welcome a bold new addition to its bar scene, as Thornbridge & Co prepare to open their flagship venue The Fargate in the historic former Yorkshire Bank building.
Located in one of the most recognisable spots in town, the new venue takes its name from its setting and joins the brewery’s growing family of pubs, which includes the Market Cat in York, Bankers Cat in Leeds and The Colmore in Birmingham. Doors open midday on Wednesday 22 October.

Speaking about the launch, Jamie Hawksworth, Director of Thornbridge & Co and Co-President of Pivovar, said: “The Fargate is on track to become a defining feature of Sheffield’s pub scene, thanks to a large investment in its unique design. We’re delighted to help shape the vibrant new era of the City Centre.”
Simon Webster, CEO and Co-Founder of Thornbridge Brewery, added: “We’re eager to open our doors to the people of Sheffield and contribute to the continued growth and character of the area.”
Inside, The Fargate blends old-world grandeur with modern pub comfort. Think dark polished wood, chandeliers, elegant leather booths, herringbone floors and brass fittings, all set against the backdrop of a grand, century-old building. It’s a space designed to feel like it’s always been here – a nod to Sheffield’s past, with a pint firmly in the present.
At the heart of the ground floor is a dramatic horseshoe bar pouring 10 cask ales – including five from Thornbridge – alongside 16 draft lines. The space is thoughtfully laid out with screened booths, a snug, banquette seating and huge windows offering a bright, street-facing view.
Head upstairs via a spiral staircase and you’ll find a totally different vibe. A lively pizza kitchen – complete with a traditional Italian corner oven – sits in full view behind glazed screens, serving fresh pizzas in a space that mixes reclaimed timber, original architecture and decorative ceilings. It’s a lighter, more contemporary setting ideal for groups, with informal benches and leather banquettes looking out over Fargate and up towards City Hall. Pizza and a pint with one of the best people-watching spots in town? Sorted.
