Staff from Sheffield’s Wake Smith Solicitors will put their best feet forward to raise funds for Weston Park Cancer Charity.
A 12-strong team from the city-based law firm has signed up to take part in the Sheffield 10k on 23 September.
The team, which includes Kate Lax, Lorraine Slack, Lauren Hance, Jo Malcolm, Natasha Lindley, Scott Haslam, Neil Salter, Jane Turner, Paul Gibbon, Duncan Shepherd and Sam Bellagha, is hoping to smash a £750 fundraising target for their chosen charity, Weston Park Cancer Charity.
Medical negligence solicitor Kate Lax said: “Staff at Wake Smith Solicitors voted to support Weston Park Cancer Charity for the financial year.
“As part of a host of fundraising events, 12 members of staff agreed to run the Sheffield 10k in support of the charity which provides incredible and unimaginable support to cancer patients.
“The run is a great opportunity for Team Wake Smith to raise awareness and fundraise for this worthwhile cause, while enjoying a great day with fellow fundraisers and runners.
“There is a bit of rivalry between us to see who makes the best time, but we are all on-side to raise as much money as we can.”
Weston Park Hospital is respected internationally as a centre of excellence for the treatment of cancer and for conducting pioneering cancer research and Weston Park Cancer Charity is the only dedicated charity for the hospital.
Since starting in 1994, the dedicated efforts of the local community, corporate partners, donors and volunteers, has meant the independent charity has raised over £22million to improve the lives of those fighting cancer.
Money raised from Wake Smith over the year is expected to go towards two key fundraising projects – the Cancer Support Centre which offers a free drop in service, complementary therapies, welfare advice and support, and the Clinical Research Unit; which has seen a 20 per cent increase in patients taking part in clinical trials thanks to charitable funding.
The Sheffield 10k route starts in Arundel Gate, taking runners along Charter Row and along Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of Endcliffe Park. It continues along Riverdale Road, along Endcliffe Vale Road, close to the Botanical Gardens, then travels down Brocco Bank and back to a city centre finish.
