Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Race Evening is returning to Doncaster Racecourse and this year is set to be extra special.
Ex-serviceman, Tony Sheppeck was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in 2010 and referred to Weston Park Cancer Hospital for treatment. Following a gruelling course of treatment, which included chemotherapy and radiotherapy, he is now celebrating ten years cancer free.
Tony explained: “I cannot praise the commitment of staff at all levels at Weston Park Cancer Hospital and Charity enough. It is through their sheer dedication and kindness that I am here today – they saved my life.”
The 59-year-old has since dedicated his life to supporting others who have been diagnosed and fundraising for Weston Park Cancer Charity.
He has raised in excess of £35,000 through various fundraisers including a Grand Canyon trek with his step-daughter, when he was still in recovery from treatment, and a coast to coast walk with his son. Tony credits them for being his “absolute rock and support”.
The donation figure is thought to be much higher as Tony offers free security services, through his company 1st Security, for all Weston Park Cancer Charity events at Doncaster Racecourse, as well as providing minibuses to transport equipment to events.
On Friday 5th June, Tony and his 1st Security team will be dazzling in purple to support Weston Park Charity’s Race Evening and celebrating his tenth-year cancer free.
Weston Park Cancer Charity CEO, Samantha Dixon said: “It is a milestone year for Tony and a milestone year for Weston Park Cancer Charity as we mark our 50th year of treating patients, as well as being the main beneficiary of funds raised through the 2020 Master Cutler’s Challenge.
“Every year, we are blown away by the generosity of our dedicated supporters in attending our Race Evening at Doncaster Racecourse. It provides vital funds towards our mission to create a better life for patients and their families living with, and beyond, cancer.”
Race goers have helped to raise nearly £150,000 since the Charity Race Evening was launched 2016.
Weston Park patients are eligible to apply for free tickets simply by picking up an entry card from the charity office or hospital.
