THE sound of music carries on through the Covid-19 pandemic thanks to Lost Chord pianist and singer Terry Saunders.
Lost Chord is the South Yorkshire charity that provides vital interactive musical sessions for people living in care homes, hospitals and day centres across the region and nationally.
With those homes now in lockdown, all the charity’s sessions have been cancelled for the time being.
But professional pianist Terry is using the period of self distancing to reach out to fellow music lovers and in particular all those people with dementia in lockdown in residential homes and in the community, helping to raise their spirits while hopefully helping to raise funds for Lost Chord too.
Terry has provided a play list for the Lost Chord website featuring some of the most popular melodies from his repertoire - everything from Tea for Two and Some Enchanted Evening to Begin the Beguine and Unchained Melody - a collection of the most popular songs of the past 100 years and more.
All supporters have to do is email Terry with their selection and a donation to Lost Chord and he then records the song and sends it back with a personal message, perfect for lifting the spirits!
“We are delighted that Terry has come up with this ingenious way of spreading the musical joy and raising much needed funds to help make sure Lost Chord is still here when everything is back to normal and we can resume our much needed visits to all the elderly in our community,” said the charity’s Chief Executive Helena Muller.
“We are hoping Terrys example will encourage a few more Lost Chord Musicians to get involved.
“Terry is a much valued part of our team and if you look at our website or his own You Tube page you’ll see why he is such a popular performer.
“While people are living in isolation, the one thing we can still all enjoy is good music and a tune from Terry is bound to lift the spirits and put a smile on your face and a spring in your step.
“Most importantly, though, the money he is raising will help us enormously as we re-launch our events as soon as the current crisis is over.”
