Frenchgate Shopping Centre is calling on all budding wordsmiths to submit their poems in a special competition.
As part of their 50th birthday celebrations, Frenchgate is looking for submissions from poets recalling their memories of the shopping centre throughout the past 50 years.
The winning poem will be installed within the centre as part of the birthday celebrations, where it will be seen by thousands of shoppers as they visit the centre.
Karen Staniforth, assistant general manager at Frenchgate, said: “Our poetry exhibition last year was really well received so we’re now looking for submissions from poets to help us celebrate the centres 50th birthday.
“This is a lovely competition to get budding writers using their creativity to come up with a wonderful piece of poetry that encapsulates the heart of the centre.
“I’m really looking forward to reading all of the submissions and I’m sure people will have lots of lovely things to say about Frenchgate!”
Last year, the centre launched ‘The Art Space at Frenchgate’, a cultural exhibition space where work by local artists and poets is on display for visitors to enjoy.
Frenchgate are set to welcome the UK’s biggest trampoline part operator, Flip Out, which will be opening a new site in the former BHS unit early summer 2018.
The deadline for all entries is Thursday 31 May and all submissions should be sent to shareyourstory@frenchgateshopping.co.uk. For more information, visit http://www.frenchgateshopping.co.uk/.
