Frenchgate Shopping Centre’s festive charity campaign has been hailed a success with hundreds of people taking part. The Centre teamed up with Doncaster Foodbank and XP Schools for the Chocs and Socks initiative.

The campaign saw the Centre working with Year 7 pupils from both XP and XP East schools asking for donations of either, a bar or box of chocolate, and a brand-new pair of socks. The donations were then distributed by Doncaster Foodbank as Christmas gifts alongside their food parcels.

Karen Staniforth, Assistant General Manager at Frenchgate, said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has left many people in situations of crisis that require the use of food banks. Our team at Frenchgate were very humbled to be able to help out at this time.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of donations we received from our loyal shoppers at Frenchgate, as well as the students and their families from XP schools. We are very grateful to everyone who took part, being able to bring a little bit of festive cheer to others this year felt particularly special.”

Gem Vayro, Assistant Principal at XP School, said: “Every expedition our students work on has some impact beyond the school and connects with our local community.

“The Guiding Question ‘How do we build a community’ has given us the opportunity to be part of this project to support the food bank. This is a vital organisation that we have helped as a school in the past and we were really pleased to do so again.”
