Many passionate young people are proud to be the voice of communities across the Sheffield City Region.
This hard work and determination is now set to be channelled by Dan Jarvis, Mayor of the Sheffield City Region, who has announced he is establishing a Sheffield City Region (SCR) Youth Combined Authority.
The announcement was made as the Mayor launched Sheffield Futures’ “Door 43” facility in Division Street, Sheffield.
The SCR Youth Combined Authority will meet for the first time in the coming weeks. This is the first board of its kind for the Sheffield City Region and has been developed in consultation with the region’s youth councils.
Mayor Jarvis said: “I’ve met many articulate, passionate and politically aware young people as MP and Mayor. Now is the time to give them a voice in the work of the Mayoral Combined Authority.
“This is why I am establishing a Sheffield City Region Youth Combined Authority to harness this talent and ensure that the young people in the city region have a voice in policy and decision making.
“I look forward to working with them all.”
The Youth Combined Authority will have representatives from all nine local authorities in the Sheffield City Region and will meet regularly with the Mayor to discuss and scrutinise developments.
Young people are being appointed by their respective youth councils to be one of their three representatives on the Youth Combined Authority and are expected to be in place for a pre-meeting in January.
The Youth Combined Authority will meet three times a year, in a different location each time.
Their remit will include holding the Mayor to account on issues that impact young people as well as contributing to the development of new policies and plans.
