Sheffield Business School has appointed 18 Entrepreneurs in Residence - successful business men and women - to work with staff and students to share the benefit of their skills and experience.
The Entrepreneurs in Residence (EntRe) are from a range of business backgrounds such as social enterprises, SMEs and larger corporations and include manufacturers, lawyers, retailers, marketeers and trainers.
Dr Alexandra Anderson, principal lecturer and project lead for enterprise and entrepreneurship at Sheffield Business School (SBS), said: "I am delighted to be working with our Entrepreneurs in Residence who come from a variety of business backgrounds.
"Our students are already benefitting greatly from their expertise and experiences in setting up and working in the world of business and in exchange we hope being involved with our staff and students will provide them with a useful and career-enhancing experience.
"All of our EntRe are successful entrepreneurs in their own right and are now part of our community of entrepreneurial and innovative stakeholders.
"They will play a vital role in supporting our graduates and recent alumni in developing their entrepreneurial mind-sets and more practically, creating and driving their new ventures.
"Our Entrepreneurs in Residence are real ambassadors for SBS and SHU enterprise."
Jay Bhayani, of Bhayani HR and Employment Law, who is one of the EntRe said: "I’m really pleased to be invited to do this. There are so many aspects to starting and running a successful business which are often overlooked by entrepreneurs, there’s much more to it than an inventive idea. SHU is enabling its students to get the right foundations in place to build some great businesses in our region."
The entrepreneurs are already taking part in a range of initiatives including graduate mentoring, and delivering masterclasses on topics including developing digital marketing strategies, successful pitching and the legal requirements when starting up and running a new venture.
They are now part of Sheffield Business School's extended network of entrepreneurs and the University's Alumni Circle of business people who are located around the world.
They will also have access to a number of SHU's world-class resources including the hot desks in the new Hallam iLab enterprise incubation space.
Professor Kevin Kerrigan, pro vice-chancellor for enterprise at Sheffield Hallam University, said: “The EntRe scheme is a brilliant example of business trailblazers inspiring students to create, innovate and take risk. It epitomises Sheffield Hallam University’s real world approach and commitment to growing future economies in the Sheffield City Region and beyond.”
