Employees at a Sheffield-based health care company have been praised for their contributions to cancer charity, Maggie’s, which is offering support to people with cancer during the current Covid crisis.

Employees at the B. Braun UK Group have the option to round up their monthly salaries to the nearest pound as part of the national, micro-giving Pennies from Heaven scheme that supports more than 265 smaller charities throughout the UK.

The award-winning company’s 1500 staff have been taking part in the scheme for almost 10 years  and during 2020 are supporting Maggie’s and in just over three months have raised more than £400.

This year the money is making a real difference to people who have or who are caring for someone with cancer. In just three months B. Braun have raised more than £400 which is amazing, and a testament to the wonderful employees who continue to make a difference during this difficult time through their generous donations.

The charity provides free cancer support and information through dedicated centres across the UK and a growing online community. An expert team of benefit advisors, psychologists and cancer support specialists who offer support sessions and practical advice which has been particularly needed during the coronavirus pandemic.

Adam Feder, Corporate Partnership Lead at Maggie’s, said: “Thanks to B. Braun Medical Ltd, we will be on hand to support people with cancer and their families throughout the UK, enabling them to manage their own personal challenges and regain a sense of control during this most challenging time.

“The repercussions of the coronavirus health crisis are being gravely felt by our visitors and in many cases, are having a devastating impact.

“Many of our visitors are experiencing heightened anxiety due to disruption to their cancer treatment, coupled with loneliness from self-isolating, away from their loved ones. Over the last three months we’ve worked hard to be able to offer this support over telephone calls, video calls and through our online community.

“The B. Braun Medical Ltd donation could not be timelier, as we work over the coming year to provide vital support for everyone who needs it.”

The Pennies from Heaven payroll initiative is part of the B.Braun Medical Ltd Give Something Back scheme which aims to support charities in the local community.

Lisa Burns, Head of HR at the Chapeltown-based company, said: “At B. Braun we try every year to give something back and are really proud that because of the high numbers of employees who have signed up with are a Platinum member of the Pennies from Heaven Scheme and which has raised over £30,000 for the various charities since our employees participated in the scheme in 2011.
