South Yorkshire documentary film maker and multi media specialist Wayne Sables has received vital Arts Council funding as he develops new approaches to work through the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the majority of his work on hold due to the nationwide lockdown, Doncaster-based Wayne, has instead been building and developing his digital presence online.
The Arts Council Emergency Response Fund grant will also give him time to fully immerse himself in the latest digital processes.
“I feel this is an important time for me to address my need to build new skills which will enable me to work and develop in the areas which will future proof me as an artist and open new financial models and a new career pathway,” said Wayne, who started his career as a dancer and choreographer before developing a new career as a film maker.
“As I develop new skills and an online digital presence, I will be better placed to create new partnerships with other digital artists and begin building the foundations to partner and bid for larger digital commissions.
“When lockdown ends, I’ll hope to share my findings and knowledge with newly engaged collaborators, partners, founders and a newly developed audience.”
The Arts Council Emergency Response Fund was launched specifically to ensure that the freelance arts sector is still in a position to practice once the situation created by the COVID-19 emergency has eased.
It aims to provide basic financial support during this time and afford practitioners time to stabilise, think and plan for the future.
