Rotherham road surface specialist SteelPhalt is bringing greener, safer motoring to iPort Doncaster.
Having already worked on the first phase of the site at Junction 3 of the M18 at Rossington in Doncaster, SteelPhalt is now delivering materials to the second phase of the multi-million pound distribution centre in association with Derek Lewis Road Surfacing.
SteelPhalt has provided several thousand tons of base and binder course layers as the second phase’s essential infrastructure begins to take shape.
And ultimately, SteelPhalt’s SteelPave product – a high-performance asphalt surfacing, designed to meet the demands of modern traffic conditions – will complete the project.
“The iPort, which already has Amazon, CEVA, Fellowes and Lidl on site, is a massive project for this region and one that is generating a large number of jobs,” said SteelPhalt Commercial Manager Lee Birkbeck.
“The benefits it is already bringing to the South Yorkshire economy are great and we at SteelPhalt are delighted that we have been selected to be part of this major scheme.
“We feel that it is a recognition of our range of road surface products, all of which have the highest green credentials as well as a proven track record in enhancing safer road usage.”
The SteelPhalt plant in Sheffield Road, Rotherham, converts steel slag into a surface course for road making.
It achieves high skid resistance – enhancing road safety for both drivers and pedestrians – and maintains it throughout the whole life of the road, also avoiding the use of quarried materials and the landfill of residual slag product.
The exceptional strength and durability of steel slag extends the life of the road and lengthens road maintenance intervals for resurfacing.
The company’s products include SteelStop, SteelSurf, SteelPave and SteelFlow.
