Young people are being urged to apply for a string of apprenticeship vacancies across the region as part of a new campaign led by The Sheffield College.
As part of that push, the College and local employer Benchmark Recruit are organising an apprenticeship hub event on Monday, March 5th, to provide more information about office-based opportunities. Apprenticeships provide the opportunity for young people and adults to learn on-the- job skills, gain a qualification and get onto the first rung of the career ladder with the chance to secure permanent employment afterwards.
Staff from Benchmark Recruit will showcase around 25 different office based apprenticeship opportunities covering roles such as reception, transport administrator, medical administrator and financial office assistant. A series of hands-on, practical fun tasks will also help event guests understand the best potential apprenticeship for them.
Louisa Harrison-Walker, Managing Director, Benchmark Recruit, said: “This session is the first of its kind in Sheffield and will give young people the chance to explore real opportunities with local businesses. Our apprentice hub event bridges the gap between employer and apprentice giving them an insight into starting out there career and making the prospect of searching for work less daunting.”
The event takes place during National Apprenticeship Week on Monday, March 5th, from 1pm to 4pm at the College’s Silver Plate Restaurant at City campus on Granville Road. To book your free place, visit https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/benchmark-futures-apprenticeship-hub-tickets-43361761195?ref=estw
National Apprenticeship Week, from March 5th to 9th, celebrates the benefits of apprenticeships and showcases why they work for individuals, employers, communities and the economy. The College is the largest provider of work-based courses in the city and the surrounding area, works with around 850 employers on apprenticeship programmes and currently has around 90 live apprenticeship vacancies.
John Gray, Director of Marketing and Strategy, The Sheffield College, added: “Apprenticeships offer young people and adults the chance to get into employment and gain a head start on a career. We are delighted to join forces with Benchmark Recruit to showcase apprenticeship opportunities and support job creation and business growth.”
Today’s apprenticeships are available across a range of levels and sectors including professions such as business, education, information technology, creative industries, digital technology and law, as well as traditional sectors such as brickwork, construction, plumbing and gas fitting.
As a large employer, the College also recruits and trains apprentices for roles within the organisation. To find out more, call 0114 2602600 or visit http://www.sheffcol.ac.uk/apprenticeships. Follow us on Twitter and Linkedin.
