A Sheffield community gym is set to benefit from a donation of equipment worth more than £5,000 from a health and wellbeing charity.
UKB Fitness, on Bawtry Road, has received a number of cardiovascular training machines – including treadmills and cross-trainers – from SIV’s Hillsborough Leisure Centre, providing access to gym facilities for local people.
Following the donation and subsequent installation of the machines, the venue will reopen in the next few weeks with improved facilities which will be low-cost to use for the community.
The donation comes as refurbishment work is carried out at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, on Penistone Road.
Councillor Zahira Naz, of Tinsley ward, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to SIV for the cardiovascular (CV) machines which they have provided us with.
“The gym is for the community, and the machines are perfect. We’re hopeful that the gym will reopen in the next few weeks, we’re just putting the finishing touches to it before we open its doors to local people who ordinarily would not have access to a gym.”
SIV is operated by Sheffield City Trust Group (SCTG), a health and wellbeing charity which operates 13 sports and leisure venues across Sheffield.
Tim Hicks, Head of Health and Wellbeing at SCTG, said: “We’re really pleased that the equipment which we donated to the gym has been so well received.
“At SIV, giving back and providing for the community and being part of community initiatives is a core part of what we do.
“We’re really keen to promote healthier lifestyles for all and initiatives such as this reinforce those values. It’s very important to help provide opportunities for people to lead healthier, happier lifestyles across the city and beyond.”
