More than 1,500 students discussed different career pathways and opportunities with employers and education providers at the Doncaster Skills Academy’s flagship event, Skills Fest 2018.
The day-long event held at Doncaster Dome, saw students from years 9 to post-16 meet more than 300 industry representatives to learn about the different career and education options available to them.
Businesses, including Cast, Pegler Yorkshire, St. Leger Homes, Willmot Dixon, Eaton, and the NHS, offered advice and ‘Have a go’ activities for attendees to understand the opportunities available within their industries.
Tina Slater, Head of Business and Education at Doncaster Chamber said: “Skills Fest 2018 gave young people and job seekers an insight into the career opportunities available to them and the pathways they can follow to achieve their dream job.
“Through ‘Have A Go’ activities they were able to step into the shoes of an employee and take part in the type of day-to-day work they might being be doing in that business.
“The careers event was a fantastic opportunity for those who were unsure about what they want to do in future, as well as those who already knew, to chat with future employers, colleges and universities, to experience the kind of work they might be doing, and know the steps they need to take.
“We are already planning a repeat event for February 2019.”
