On World Mental Health Day, Working Win is reminding people there are just three weeks left to sign up to innovative health-led employment trial.
Time is running out to sign up to a pioneering research trial testing a new type of employment support for people with mental and physical health conditions.
There are just three weeks left to sign up to Working Win: The Health-led Employment Trial, which is one of two such programmes running in the UK.
More than 5,000 people have already signed up to take part in the trial, which is open to anyone with a mental or physical health condition who is registered with a GP in South Yorkshire or Bassetlaw.
Dan Jarvis, Mayor of the Sheffield City Region, said: “This World Mental Health Day is a great opportunity to talk about mental health – but also a timely reminder that we should be having this conversation all year round.
“That’s why I’d like to encourage people not to miss the chance to join Working Win, which is pioneering new support for people with mental and physical health conditions.
“I’m also proud that the Sheffield City Region is leading the way in this important work, which could revolutionise the way employment support is delivered in the UK.”
Working Win is funded by the Government’s Work and Health Unit, and is being delivered in partnership with local NHS partners and South Yorkshire Housing Association.
The trial is testing a new type of employment support for people who want to find or stay in work but may be struggling to because of a health condition.
Half of participants will receive Individual Placement and Support (IPS), a service that is tailored to the needs of the individual, while half will receive existing services.
The aim is to discover whether the new type of support is successful in helping people with mild to moderate health conditions into employment.
Two such trials are running in the UK – one here in South Yorkshire, and one in the West Midlands. Referrals for Working Win end on 31 October this year, and support for those on the programme will run for up to 12 months.
For those who are eligible, free bus passes are now available to people receiving support from an employment specialist through Working Win. The passes are designed to reduce barriers for those in their first few months of a job and aid a smooth transition into employment.
