A course has been launched by Chesterfield-based training provider Learning Unlimited to help electricians get ahead of the competition and equip them with the skills to install electric vehicle charging equipment.

The new training has been designed to help local electricians stay at the cutting edge of this new technology and will be delivered in partnership with Rolec EV, the largest provider of electric vehicle equipment in the UK. The training, which will take place at Chesterfield College, will also provide electricians with the opportunity to become an installer at the end of the course.

David Higham, Commercial Director at Learning Unlimited, explained: “Anyone taking part in this course will be gaining valuable skills. There will be a growing demand for people with these skills, particularly when you consider that it is predicted that twice as many electric and hybrid cars will be sold this year than the previous four years combined.”

Initially the courses will be held at the Chesterfield College campus on Infirmary Road in Chesterfield on 20 May, 17 June and 12 July but the courses are expected to be rolled out to other Learning Unlimited venues across Derby, Nottingham, Manchester, and Birmingham.

To be able to attend this course, electricians must be at least 18-years-old and have knowledge of relevant wiring regulations. The training course will cover the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Code of Practice for electric vehicle charging equipment installation and will lead to a certificate for a national recognised qualification. Those who pass the course will also be able to apply to the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) to become an approved installer.

Learning Unlimited, part of the Chesterfield College Group, specialises in the provision of apprenticeship programmes and delivers training and development plans. This includes training programmes in subjects ranging from accounting to short courses for the engineering and construction industries and regulatory training such as health and safety and first aid.
