A Sheffield based author has released a new book to inspire the next generation of tech professionals. Christina Lovelock is a consultant, writer, international speaker and qualified coach. She is also an assessor for digital apprenticeships and Director of Community at tech-consultancy start up, Herd Consulting. With over 20 years of experience working in the tech sector, she is committed to the development of the future tech workforce.

Christina regularly speaks in schools about tech careers and is a volunteer book reviewer for the charity Technology Books for Children. Her second book Careers in Tech, Data and Digital: From education to employment is to be published by BCS, the chartered institute for IT.

Christina’s book champions the message that getting into tech doesn’t have to mean learning how to code. There is a lot of emphasis on the idea that ‘tech jobs’ just mean software developer roles, when in reality there are a wide range of roles in data, digital and tech.

Debbie Forster MBE, CEO and Founder, Tech Talent Charter told unLTD: “So many people ask why women or under-presented groups don’t ‘get into tech’. Often this is because people have no idea what a career in tech actually is! This book unpacks all the terminology, demystifies all the misconceptions and makes careers in tech feel simple, straightforward and, most importantly, do-able.”

Christina’s book helps to highlight the breadth of interesting, creative, and collaborative roles available in tech. Careers in Tech, Data and Digital provides an overview of how the tech sector works, so you can see how the different roles fit in. It’s packed with engaging illustrations with the aim to inspire young people from a wide range of backgrounds, education levels and interests to consider a career in tech.
